Premier League Fixture Announcement: A Tottenham Hotspur Perspective
Just 24 days
after the climax of the 2024/25 Premier League season, the teams in the top
flight of English football have learnt their fixture schedule for the upcoming
2025/26 campaign.
For Tottenham
Hotspur, a new era will dawn on Saturday 16th August 2025. Highly-rated
manager Thomas Frank has already been confirmed as the successor to Ange
Postecoglou, arriving from cross-capital rivals Brentford, and it can be argued
that he has a somewhat favourable opening league match in charge, at home to
newly-promoted Burnley.
Frank
inherits a Spurs squad who have just finished a pitiful 17th place
in the league, but lifted the Europa League under his predecessor Postecoglou.
Given that the Australian was a firm favourite among players and large sections
of the fanbase, Frank will be keen to win over those who felt that the club
should’ve given Postecoglou more time.
The Dane has
been thrown into life in N17 at the deep end, with his opening competitive
match in the job being the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain at Udinese’s
Stadio Friuli. Spurs will be massive underdogs in Udine, but Frank has proven
the doubters wrong time and time again during his time at the Bees, and will no
doubt relish the challenge.
Despite having
to face the current Champions League champions, Scott Parker’s newly-promoted Burnley
are the visitors on the opening day, and despite their record-breaking
defensive record in the Championship, the Lilywhites will feel that they can
get off to a winning start under their new boss.
Spurs then
travel to the Etihad, which has been somewhat of a happy hunting ground for
them in recent years, but they will be facing a Manchester City side with a
point to prove after finishing trophyless last season under Pep Guardiola for
the first time since 2017, and will be an incredibly tough fixture.
But, the trip to the Etihad aside, the fixture list sees Tottenham avoid matches against fellow Big 6 sides until November. Following the away game against Man City, Frank’s men then host Bournemouth, before a trip to local rivals West Ham after the international break. They then travel to Brighton, before hosting Wolves to round off September. In theory, it is a run that is more favourable than what other members of the Big 6 have to endure.
North London Derby hostilities resume at the Emirates on 22nd November
As soon as
the fixtures are released, there is one fixture that Spurs fans look out for
before anything else: the North London Derby.
Frank’s
first trip to the Emirates will take place on the weekend of the 22nd
November, continuing a very difficult month which would have previously seen
home ties against both Chelsea and Manchester United.
The home
match against Arsenal is scheduled for the weekend of the 21st
February, again ending an unfavourable run which sees matches against both
Manchester clubs and Newcastle before they welcome Mikel Arteta’s side.
Other
notable London derby dates include travelling to the London Stadium on 13th
September to face West Ham United, before hosting the Hammers on 17th
January. Following the home match against Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea on 1st
November, Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge for their final away match of the
season – currently scheduled for 16th May. If either side are challenging
for Champions League football by May, that could be a monumental match in deciding
who gets to compete among Europe’s elite for the 2026/27 season.
The season
then concludes at home to Everton – while the reverse fixture sees us visit the
brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time on 25th October.
Time will tell whether the match on the final day will be a dead rubber, or
whether Spurs will have something to play for.
Thomas Frank will
be looking to get off to a strong start at Tottenham Hotspur
