FA Cup Second Qualifying Round: The pick of the ties

 


The draw for the Emirates FA Cup Second Qualifying Round was published at 1pm on Monday 7th September.

Step 2 sides enter the competition at this stage. 37 clubs in Step 3 of non-league have so far qualified from the previous round and they are joined by 32 Step 4 sides and nine clubs from Step 5. The results of 29 ties are still to be decided via replays.

Arguably the pick of the results saw Step 5 side Trafford defeat Bamber Bridge, of two leagues above, 3-1 away from home. Despite being a goal down at half-time, second-half goals from Lewis Jacklin, Dillon Edmundson and David Worrall ensured a memorable win for the Manchester-based side. Tom Baker’s men have been rewarded for their efforts with a trip to the north-east to face Heaton Stannington.

Another Step 5 outfit, Shane Baptiste’s Woodford Town, got to this stage last season where they were beaten at home by just a solitary goal by Step 3 side St Albans City, and booked their place in this round with a 3-1 win at Dunstable, thanks to goals from Georges Kebi, Jibran Ahmed and Mohammad Lawal, before Daniel Forde’s late consolation for the hosts. Woodford host Mulbarton Wanderers of the Isthmian North (Step 4) in the Second Qualifying Round.

As for ties involving Step 2 sides, a particularly mouthwatering clash sees Morecambe, just relegated to Step 2 after successive demotions from the football league, host near-neighbours Southport.

In Southern England, two well-supported teams in Billericay Town and Enfield Town lock horns at the New Lodge – the two sides swapped divisions over the summer as The Blues won promotion to the National League South after four seasons in Step 3, while The Towners were relegated after two seasons in the National League South.

Elsewhere, there are six all-Step 2 ties: AFC Telford United v Worksop Town, King’s Lynn Town v Bedford Town, Maidenhead United v Ebbsfleet United, Marine v Radcliffe, Slough Town v Chatham Town and Walton & Hersham v Horsham.

Nunes late winner defeats resolute Villa   Mateus Nunes scores a late winner for City.   Mateus Nunes’ first Premier League goal for Manchester City gave Pep Guardiola’s side a priceless victory in the race for a Champions League finish, defeating Aston Villa 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening.
