Torres and Oti help Beach Boys edge past Stow

By Sam Gardiner

A goal in each half from Kai Torres and Khris Oti helped Concord Rangers to victory over 10-man Walthamstow, to send the hosts up to 4th in the table.

It took Concord four minutes to open the scoring, as a good team move ended with captain Charlie Wardle lifting a ball over the defence for Toheeb Elegushi to run onto. The Concord winger lifted the ball over goalkeeper Luke Mewitt into the path of Torres, who slid the ball over the line to give the hosts the ideal start.

It would go from bad to worse for Stow ten minutes later, as another ball over the top from Wardle to the tricky Torres led to the latter attempting to lob Mewitt, but the Walthamstow shot-stopper handled the ball, with referee Rikki Woolford deeming the foul a denial of a goalscoring opportunity, and he brandished a straight red to Mewitt.

With no goalkeeper on the bench, defender Keano Robinson was forced to don the gloves, and he made good saves either side of half-time to deny Mekhi McKenzie and Andrew Sesay.

But the win was sealed with two minutes to play, as Elegushi did well to win the ball high up the pitch, before squaring for Oti to fire past Robinson and secure the points for The Beach Boys.
